Thinking back to my early days, while I grew up immersed in the pop punk sounds of bands like Sum 41 and Third Eye Blind, and later even explored the melodic depth of groups like Boston, it was truly Sebastian Bach from Skid Row who ignited that spark in me. I vividly remember playing their songs and pushing my voice to its limits, trying to hit those incredible high notes and match his powerhouse range. It was in those moments, striving to emulate that vocal prowess, that I clearly saw my path forward; I knew I wasn't just meant to be a fan, but a traveling musician myself.

When I think about the 70s, my mind immediately goes to bands like The Kinks. We have such an extensive vinyl collection, a whole room dedicated to it, and their records are definitely a constant spin for us. It's more than just listening; it's about the atmosphere, the way we entertain ourselves and friends. There’s just something about that era, especially bands like The Kinks, that we always find ourselves drawn back to, keeping that classic vibe alive in our home.

What is the first artist, album, or song you remember from childhood?

When I look back to my earliest memories, it all unequivocally starts with AC/DC. I was just a kid when I first saw Angus Young on stage, doing his iconic thing, and from that moment, I was completely hooked. I immersed myself in everything AC/DC: their albums, the vinyl, the books, and those old music videos we used to watch on DVD. There was just something so incredibly cool about their sound and even the occult, devil imagery they used. I wanted nothing more than to be Angus Young; he was the ultimate inspiration for me from a very young age.

Growing up, even though I've always leaned towards the heavier side of music, my earliest memories are filled with the spectacle of bands like Alice Cooper and Twisted Sister. There was just something so captivating about their theatricality; it really grabbed me. As I got a bit older and started exploring more, my dad was instrumental in introducing me to the raw power of thrash, specifically bands like Overkill. That really shifted my perspective and opened up a whole new world of sound. Now, those foundational influences, from the grand theatricality to the pure thrash energy, all come together in what I create, especially bringing in that Overkill intensity to the band's sound.

When it comes to drummers, honestly, I'd have to say the absolute beast of a player we have right in our own band, Gunnar, is truly a favorite. I mean, he's the real star of the show back there. Watching him just go at those drums, smashing them with such incredible energy, is genuinely one of the most entertaining things I've ever seen. We're all about giving the crowd a full, theatrical experience, a real performance where you get what you pay for, and Gunnar's powerful, electrifying playing is a massive part of bringing that energy and showmanship to life. He truly is cool to watch.

When it comes to melodies, my head immediately goes to those classic bands that really know how to craft a catchy hook. We're massive record collectors, so our house is always filled with music, and you'll often hear The Kinks spinning on the turntable – their '70s stuff is just gold for melodies. We also draw a lot from bands like Bandit; they might not be super mainstream, but their power pop sensibilities and killer melodies are a huge inspiration for us. And, honestly, even some of those earlier Third Eye Blind albums, the way the guitar work weaves into those songs, it really shaped how we approach crafting our own melodic riffs. It's all about finding that perfect pop hook and then smashing it together with our hard rock edge to create something fresh.
